Distribution.
A small ant genus currently with only a single extant species, which can be found in East Asia.
Biology & Ecology.
Nests are likely located within the soil. Biology of the only species remains unknown. Like other species from the subfamily, workers are likely general hunters and scavengers. Workers’ foraging activity is likely limited to within the soil or leaf litter of forest habitats.
Identification.
Buniapone species is large in size (6–7 mm) with reddish brown coloration. It can be recognized by its long, toothed mandibles, the absence of eye, its mesosoma with a continuous contour and by having a narrow waist segment.
