Distribution.
Native from the tropical and subtropical regions of East Asia, this species has a widespread distribution.
Biology & Ecology.
This species is common in Hong Kong. It nests within the soil and forages on the ground or in leaf litter, and prefers open habitat or open forest.
Workers are solitary scavengers, and like other generalist species from the genus, they may tend Hemiptera for their honeydew.
Identification.
The species can be recognized by its dark coloration, the long spine on its back and by having long dense erect hairs all over the ant.
