Distribution.
One of the most widespread species in the genus. Native from the tropical and subtropical regions of East Asia, this species has been introduced to other parts of the Old World.
Biology & Ecology.
The species is known to nest within the soil, decaying wood and on lower vegetation, and forage above ground. Native to Hong Kong, this species is a common species, and can be found in forest, open habitats, disturbed environment and household.
In introduced regions in SEA, it is one of the most common pest ants inside buildings. Despite its high tolerance to disturbance and association with human activities, this species has not been reported as an invasive species or agricultural pest.
Identification.
The species can be recognized by, for minor workers, their entire mesosoma fully sculptured.
