Distribution.
A small ant genus with 22 species described. The genus has a limited distribution, restricted to tropical and subtropical regions of the Old World.
Biology & Ecology.
Nests of Syllophopsis species are likely located within the soil and decaying wood. Almost nothing is known about the biology and ecology of the genus, including colony size and diet. The genus is known to forage above the ground or within leaf litter.
Identification.
Syllophopsis species are very small in size (1–2 mm), mostly with yellow to light brown coloration. They can be recognized by their 12-segmented antennae with 3-segmented club, reduced eyes, and the anterior margin of clypeus with a pair of teeth-like structure.
