Distribution.
A widespread species in the genus. Native from the tropical to temperate regions of East Asia, this species is common in Hong Kong.
Taxonomy.
This species has been suspected to contain more than one species under the name due to variations in workers’ color, size and morphology. More taxonomic work is thus needed within Asia to determine the different species boundaries.
Biology & Ecology.
The species has been found nesting within the soil, bamboo cavities and on low vegetation, and it commonly forages on trees.
Identification.
The species can be recognized by its light coloration and a distinct median notch at the anterior clypeal margin.
