Distribution.
Native from tropical and subtropical regions of East Asia, this species has a widespread distribution.
Taxonomy.
This species has been suspected to contain more than one species under the name due to variations in workers’ morphology. More taxonomic work is thus needed within Asia to determine the different species boundaries.
Biology & Ecology.
The species likely nests under stones and within decaying wood. This species is common in Hong Kong, and can be found in both forest and open habitats. Like other species from the genus, workers are likely general scavengers and/or hunters of other insects.
Identification.
The species can be recognized by its color: yellowish brown head and body, and by having sporadic erect hairs on the body.
